Ok!
So we are all in this together- We know working from home with kids isn't easy. Everyone needs a challenge and it is your job to provide this!
I promise to make this more professional when I don't have a three year old climbing on top of me and teenagers needing constant attention to help them get on with their schooling!
However, I do want to provide you with EASY to use material to get your kids thinking creatively at home.
The fastest way for me to get information to you is to publish some of my activities from Crames Games
This is a book I wrote in 2013 to help parents and teachers have access to practical information and make it as easy to use as possible. I now have a blackboard set up in the kitchen with one of these every day!
As my new book will be about skills for the future, I will be writing new activities for these specific skills. I will include these as well- in time! Rachael will also contribute as she is the specialist in mindful thinking, positivity in adolescents ( which is so important!)
But today:
here is one activity to start with
What if...
So ask your kids What if....
There are a few rules though.
1. Come up with As Many Ideas as possible ( the whole point is flow so the more ideas the better- good or not! Just something.. so that they are thinking!
2. Do NOT JUDGE these ideas. So you don't think the ideas are good? Did you know that most inventions were mistakes and that many seemingly bad ideas turned out to be some of the best ideas in the world. For example " something that lets people get money out of a WALL???" HAHA turns out that was a pretty good one!
3 Silly Ideas are OK. So not matter how "far out" and "crazy" these are- they are thoughts. For many reasons it is important to let them have these ideas. For a start- just because we don't agree does not mean the idea does not have value- the most creative minds have far out outrageous ideas! Think JK Rowling for example. If she did't have these Crazy ideas- we would not have one of the most loved children's characters of all time!
4. Bouncing Ideas is Ok
So, if you are doing this activity with more than one child (preferable) then they will get ideas from each other. One idea leads to another and so on...
So make sure the list of ideas is LONG and SILLY! It does not matter at this stage! This is brainstorming so just remember FLOW of thought is the most important thing. Also, thinking of praising your kids and making them feel validated and good about themselves, Celebrate their creative minds!
What if..
the sea turned every single thing it touched RED forever
And as this one seems appropriate in the situation we find ourselves in..
Ask your children to Brainstorm:
As many positive things they can think of about the coronavirus.
For example :
People will spend quality time with family
Creativity will be heightened
Entrepreneurs could thrive
Take care and stay safe! Have fun brainstorming and really hope this helps!
